Gas Prices On the Rise

What Is Going On with Gas Prices?

Gas prices are heading for a new high. What’s behind the spike? The escalating showdown with Iran over its nuclear program. How high can prices go? $5 a gallon or higher? It is the reality that will hit all commuters across the country. Gas prices seem to have nowhere to go except up. The average price for gas has never been higher for this time of year. The national average is $3.56/gallon which is up .39/gallon from February 2011. Prices are predicted to skyrocket to $4.25/gallon by April. Cities like Los Angelos, Miami, and Philadelphia are all ready averaging over $3.60/gallon.

And its not just gas. Oil prices spiked to a 9 month high due to the rising tensions with Iran. It could have sweeping consequences on drivers budgets and the entire nation’s economy. A .25 increase in gas over a year’s time would cost the economy $35 billion. Brace for it to only get worse. Some predictions show gas reaching $5.00/gallon by Memorial Day. That would make the country’s record high of $4.11/gallon back in 2008 seem like a downright bargain.

How Search Engines Work

The Evolution of Search Engines

In the emerging days of the Web, directories were built to help users navigate to various Web sites. Generally, these directories were created by hand—people categorized Web sites so users could browse to what they wanted. As the Web got larger, this effort became more difficult.

“Web spiders” were created that “crawled” Web sites. Web spiders, also known as robots, are computer programs that follow links from known Web sites to other Web sites. These robots access those pages, download the contents of those pages (into a storage mechanism generally referred to as an “index”), and add the links found on those pages to their list for later crawling.

While Web crawlers enabled the early search engines to have a larger list of sites than the manual method of collecting sites, they couldn’t perform the other manual tasks of figuring out what the pages were about and ranking them in order of which ones were  best. These search engines started working on computer programs that would help them do these things as well. For instance, computer programs could catalog all the words on a page to help figure out what those pages were about.

Search Engines: The Introduction of PageRank

Google’s “PageRank” algorithm in 1998 was a big step forward in automatically cataloging and ranking Web sites. This algorithm used data from the links on the Web to determine what pages were about and which pages were more popular and useful. Links were like votes for a site and the text from those links was used for cataloging them.

While Google patented the specific PageRank algorithm, this general method of categorizing sites became the standard for search engines and the basis of how search engine technology has evolved. While people still refer to “PageRank” as a major factor in ranking well in search engines, there are now hundreds of signals that search engines use to compile a list of the most relevant results possible for a query.

Network Marketing: Diversify Your Contacts

It’s been said that most people know between two hundred and three hundred people. “Isn’t that plenty for my network marketing business?” you might ask. “Why should I expand? Won’t I dilute my efforts if I spread myself too thin, trying to keep up with so many more people?”

These may seem like good questions, but the concept underlying this strategy is stepping outside your comfort zone to meet people who are different from you. By doing so, you expose yourself and your business to people you might not have otherwise met, simply because they are not within your everyday circle of contacts.

Build Diversity In Your Network Marketing Business

A major key to success in building a powerful network marketing business is diversity. Yet, it’s natural for us to be attracted to people much like ourselves. People tend to cluster and congregate based on education, age, race, professional status, and other characteristics. We connect with people based on shared interests and spend time with those who have experiences or perspectives similar to ours. Most of our friends and associates know one another as well, and we find ourselves associating with the same circle of friends.

The problem is that when you surround yourself with people who have similar contacts, you may find it hard to connect with new people or companies with whom you want to do business. If you limit yourself to that one circle of friends and colleagues, your business’s exposure will be finite—limited to that same circle of associates, and the people they know. This can be a recipe for the slow and painful death of your network marketing business.

network marketing

But think about the untapped world beyond the security of your circle of close contacts. What network marketing business opportunities could you be missing, simply because you’re not connected in those circles? A diverse business network increases the chances of including connectors, or linchpins, in your network. Linchpins are people with a variety of interests that make them part of more than one network. This lets them serve as “bridges” between two or more groups of people with different interests and contacts.

Utilize Linchpins In Network Marketing

Diversifying helps you locate these connectors between clusters of people. In other words, linchpins are the folks who create shortcuts across “clumps” or groups of people.  The best way to increase the number of linchpins in your network marketing is to develop a diverse network, not a homogeneous one. The more diverse the network, the more likely that it will include overlapping connectors or linchpins that link people together in ways you never would have imagined. When it comes to business networking, you never know who people know.

The Most Critical Skill Every Network Marketing Professional Must Possess

Many people would say that recruiting is the most important skill in network marketing. Others would say contacting and inviting. Even more would argue it’s learning to be effective on the phone. I disagree with all of these answers. All are important, but not most important.

Before any of these skills contribute to building your network marketing empire, you’re going to have to be mentally tough. In other words, you’re going to have to learn to become a master of your emotions. This means learning how to control your thoughts, feelings, and attitudes— especially under pressure.

Why Is Being Mentally Tough The Most Critical Skill in Network Marketing?

Why is this the single most critical skill? Because without it you will fail. Period. The rejection you face on a daily basis in this business will wipe you out, just as it has wiped out millions of other sharp, ambitious, well-educated people. The masses don’t understand network marketing, and their ignorance often takes the form of ridicule.

If you are mentally tough enough to keep bouncing back while growing stronger with each attack, you have a legitimate shot at living your dream in this business. There are no guarantees, but you have a shot.

The majority of people are addicted to the approval of others. Most of us are taught from an early age to place a high value on what other people think of us. We’re told to obey the rules, respect our elders, and comply with society’s value structure. When we stray from these commands, we are punished.

Talking About Podcasting

Podcasting is an effective way for you and your business to be heard—to capture the valuable minds of customers, prospects, and employees. And, like nearly all of the social media tools in the ecosystem, it’s free! Podcasting is quite easy to do and produces a medium that is much more psychologically desirable—and frequently more accessible—to your customers and followers than mere text.

Podcasting and You

Podcasting is an equally accessible and entertaining application of the iPod. The word podcasting comes from combining the terms iPod and broadcasting. Podcasting is both fun and fairly simple—because everything you need to be able to podcast is either already built into your computer (hardware) or free download from the Internet(software).

Podcasts are ordinary MP3 audio files and aren’t limited to the iPod or the i’I'unes Store. A podcast can be played on any MP3 player or right from your browser from any web site that offers podcasts. You can listen to an audio recording live by streaming into an audio player, or you can download and save the file to your PC. Once you have the file stored on your PC, you can transfer it to an MP3 portable player, or just listen to it at any time from your MP3 player or web browser.

Podcasts allow anyone, for the first time in history, to create one’s own talk show, interview, educational or training seminar, sermon, speech, presentation, or music file that can be distributed worldwide to literally tens, hundreds, or even thousands of people who can play or download it and hear what you have to say . . . for free. You can create a following of colleagues, friends, and customers who care about what you have to say; and by podcasting, you’ve created a viral, entertaining, and informative medium through which you can be heard.

What You Need To Know About Podcasting

From the audience perspective, audio files are smaller and download faster than video, can be played on more existing portable players, and can be listened to while driving, walking to work, or working out at the gym. So, for many, podcasting audio content is the easiest and most effective way to broadcast their personal message.

To create an audio podcast, all you need is your computer, the built-in microphone (or an external one, if your computer does not have a microphone built in), the free audio recording and editing software that came with the computer—and a little bit of creativity. Just hit Record, announce your  message, hit Save, and upload it to a web site like PodBean.com for  distribution, and you are podcasting.

Top Traits of a Network Marketer: Part 3

I’ll say it again. A top network marketer does more than just shaking hands and passing out business cards. Networking is really about building your “social capital.” Here are some more tips to be a top network marketer.

Network Marketer: Sincerity

Friendliness without sincerity is like a cake without frosting. You can offer the help, the thanks, the listening ear, but if you aren’t sincerely interested in others, it will show— and they’ll know it! Those who have developed successful networking skills convey their sincerity at every turn.

One of the best ways to develop this trait is to give your undivided attention to the individual with whom you’re developing a referral relationship. Don’t multitask when you’re on the phone; stop browsing the Web, balancing your checkbook, and shining your shoes. When you multitask, nothing gets your full attention, and everything suffers in some way; besides, people can tell when you’re not all there. Make eye contact when you’re speaking to them in person. Sincerely show that you care, and give your complete attention to the individual in front of you.

Network Marketer: Dedicated to Working One’s Network

As mentioned previously, it’s not net-sit or net-eat—it’s net-WORK, and a top network marketer doesn’t let any opportunity to work their networks pass them by. They manage their contacts with contact management software, organize their e-mail address files, and carry their referral partners’ business cards along with their own. They set up appointments to get better acquainted with new contacts and learn as much about them as possible, so they can truly become part of one another’s networks.

Do you see the common thread in these points? You can also see that they all tie in to proactive long-term relationship building, not to stalking prey for the immediate big kill. People who take the time to build their “social capital” are the ones who will have new business referred to them over and over. The key is to build mutually beneficial business relationships. Only then will you succeed as a top network marketer.

Top Traits of a Network Marketer: Part 2

This is another post about the traits that I feel are essential for a network marketer to be successful. Take the time to build your social network using these practices.

Top Network Marketer: Listening Skills

Our success as a network marketer depends on how well we can listen and learn from the people in our network. The faster you and your networking partner learn what you need to know about each other, the faster you’ll establish a valuable relationship. Listening for the needs and problems of others can also position you to engage the services of the people you know. Many distractions can get in the way of listening well to each other. Communicating well takes focus and effective listening.

Top Network Marketer: Commitment to Networking 24/7.

A top network marketer is never formally off duty. (Well, maybe when they’re asleep.) Networking is so natural to them that they can be found networking in the grocery checkout line, at the doctor’s office, and while picking the kids up from school—as well as at business mixers and networking meetings. Top networkers take advantage of every opportunity that’s presented to them on a daily basis. They operate in the “Givers Gain” mind-set and are first and foremost looking for opportunities for the people in their network.

Top Network Marketer: Gratitude

Gratitude is sorely lacking in today’s business world. Expressing gratitude to business associates and clients is just another building block in the cultivation of relationships that will lead to increased referrals. People like to refer others to business professionals who go above and beyond. Thanking others  at every opportunity will help you stand out from the crowd. Expressing sincere gratitude to the people who will one day be there to help you is not just a courtesy—it’s the right thing to do.

Top Network Marketer: Helpfulness

Helping others can be done in a variety of ways, from simply showing up to help with an office move to clipping a useful and interesting article and mailing it to an  associate or client. Top network marketers keep their eyes and ears open for opportunities to advance other people’s interests. They offer to help others whenever they can, because they authentically want to help. It’s as simple as that. Top networkers get joy out of helping other people succeed.

People who take the time to build their social networks are the ones who will have new business referred to them over and over. The key is to build mutually beneficial business relationships. Only then will you succeed as a network marketer.

Top Traits of a Network Marketer: Part 1

Networking is more than just shaking hands and passing out business cards. A top network marketer really develops and maintains good relationships. Here are some tips to help you with your business.

Top Traits of a Network Marketer

1. Timely follow-up on referrals. If you present an opportunity–whether it’s a simple piece of information, a special contact, or a qualified business referral–to someone who consistently fails to follow up successfully, it’s no secret that you’ll eventually stop wasting your time with this person. Following up with what you say you’re going to do, when you say you’re going to do it, builds your credibility and trust as a network marketer.

2. Positive attitude. A consistently negative attitude makes people dislike being around you and drives away referrals; a positive attitude makes people want to associate and cooperate with you. When you are positive, you’re like a magnet. People want to be around you and will send their friends, family, and associates to you. Positive attitudes are contagious. Being positive contributes to your determination, internal motivation, and ultimate mlm business success.

3. Enthusiasm/motivation. Think about the people you know who get the most referrals. They’re the people who show the most motivation, right? It’s been said that the best sales  characteristic is enthusiasm. To be respected as a network marketer, we at least need to sell ourselves with enthusiasm. Once we’ve done an effective job of selling ourselves, we can reap the reward of seeing our contacts sell us to others. That’s motivation in and of itself! Enthusiasm aligns well with a positive attitude. Enthusiastic and motivated people make things happen for them—and for the people they know.

4. Trustworthiness. When you refer one person to another there is no doubt that you’re putting your personal and professional reputation on the line. You have to be able to trust your referral partner and be trusted in return. Neither you nor anyone else will refer a contact or valuable information to someone who can’t be trusted to handle it well. Trust, as we have been taught, is earned. It develops over time and throughout the life span of a relationship. Trust can never be taken lightly, because it plays a huge role in your credibility as a network marketer.

Love Your MLM Life

The love of life is necessary to the vigorous prosecution of any undertaking.

MLM: Enjoy Your Life and Work

The last—and certainly not least—VITAL sign of a healthy mlm business is how much you enjoy your work and your life. We are in a relationship business. In addition to our products and services, we sell the potential for financial and time freedom. Are you attracted to working with someone who is overwhelmed and stressed out or exudes a poverty mentality? Or are you more excited about working with someone who is joyful and excited about life .mil has an attitude of abundance?

The law of attraction plays a key role in magnetizing customers and team members to our mlm businesses. It must not be underestimated! One way to ignite the law of attraction is to begin living your vision today. While some details may not be possible to implement immediately, the feelings you would derive from living that vision are available to you anytime.

Your MLM Vision and Intention Statements

Look deeply into your vision and intention statements: What would give the greatest joy if your vision were to be true today? How can you have the essence of your vision today, in this very moment, so you can feel the fullness of what you desire in your life every day, beginning now?

One of my favorite resources for living a mlm life of freedom and joy before having financial freedom is the book, Revolutionary Agreements: Twelve Ways to Transform Stress and Struggle into Freedom and Joy. In this book are guidelines for living an authentic life that honors and celebrates the best in each of us.

Follow these VITAL signs of a healthy mlm business to success in networking and life. See you at the top!

Act Authentically in Your Home Based Business

The prime source of nourishing interaction is authentic, intimate relating.

                                                                                                                                                   —Jerry Greenwald

Home Based Business: Action and Authenticity

This VITAL sign promotes two key ideas for a healthy home based business: action and authenticity. Too many new distributors start this business and then go into an extended period of analysis paralysis: reading e-mails, researching their products, reading network marketing books, filing, organizing—planning to get ready. While all of this does play a role in your business, only action (backed by belief) will give you results.

The Pareto Principle is important to learn early on: 20 percent of what you do will give you 80 percent of the return on your invested energy. If you did 10 business-related things every day and two of those (20 percent) were critical to your success, what would they likely be? (1) Contacting potential customers/team members and (2) following up with them!

home based business

During your initial contact and in all of your interactions with potential customers and team members, keep in mind this VITAL sign: act authentically. In a world where selling has gotten a bad name from those who exagerate or downright lie in order to convince a prospective customer to buy, we have a duty and an obligation to act ethically and authentically.
